Why do I want to be on the School Board?
In the years that our two children Aidan and Cecelia have been in school I have seen firsthand what a great school district we live in and it makes me proud to be a part of it. I want to help create an environment where all kids have an opportunity to excel academically and socially to the best of their abilities so that they can have a positive impact on society. I want to help create an environment where all kids are seen as equals regardless of race, economic status or level of ability. I will strive to make sure parents and kids have their voices heard.
Why am I qualified to serve on the School Board?
My Values:
I believe in high quality education for all kids in the school district regardless of race, economic status or level of ability. I believe that excellent public schools are not only vital to where the community is now but also vital to where it will be in the future. I believe that we need to maintain and improve our early childhood and early intervention programs to help kids get the supports they need to be successful in school. I will bring honesty, integrity, a strong work ethic, teamwork, compassion and respect to my seat on the school board.
My Strengths:
I enjoy looking at an issue, researching all sides and coming up with the correct, positive solution. Sometimes this means having to relay information some may not want to hear. I enjoy being part of a team that keeps their eyes on the goal and puts the needs of others before their own. I have demonstrated my leadership skills as the parent facilitator of the Special Education Advisory Council in the Austin School District. I also serve as Vice-President of the ARC Mower County board and as a member of the Riverland Community College Accounting Advisory Committee.
My Experiences:
I have 10 years of experience in the accounting field working for both profit and non-profit organizations. I have worked with teams across multiple departments to implement changes to improve work processes and policies. I have enjoyed working with district staff on our daughter’s team to develop and maintain her Individualized Education Plan. The position as the Parent Facilitator of SEAC has given me the opportunity to getting a better understanding of the school district.
